As a teenager, Marie-Hélene Prémont use to work as a volunteer at the World Cup mountain bike events at Mont-Ste-Anne, Que., situated about 10 minutes from her home in Chateau-Richer. She decided to try the sport and at one point excelled at the national level in both mountain biking and snowboarding. But she eventually made a decision to drop her winter passion.
It was a good move as Prémont is now among the world's best on the trails. This season on the World Cup she's posted two silver medal performances - including one at Mont-Ste-Anne- and a fourth place finish. This past June she was signed by Rocky Mountain Bicycles pro team which includes Alison Sydor.
In 2002, she nabbed the last spot on the Commonwealth team on the final day of qualifying. She finished fourth at the Games.
