Mike Barry provided a jolt of confidence to the Canadian cycling program last year with a remarkable seventh place finish in the men's 260 kilometre road race at the world championships in Hamilton. Barry tagged the leaders until the end and came within a whisker of the bronze.

Barry followed his father's passion for the sport and was impressive early in his career making both the 1994 Commonwealth Games team and 1996 Olympic team. A turning point was also in 1996 when he placed eighth at the under-23 worlds which caught the attention of several pro teams. After a successful run with Saturn, he is currently with the U.S., Postal Service team which includes superstar Lance Armstrong. He didn't race in the Tour de France but was at the event providing dispatches for the team's top sponsor's website.

He is married to American Dede Demet-Barry, one of the top female cyclists in the world.
