Looking for someone who'd be considered a long shot for an Olympic medal? Margaret Langford has a wealth of experience in women's whitewater kayak singles and snippets of international success. In other words she's proven she can be the best but not on a consistent basis.
She has four career World Cup medals and enters her fourth Olympic Games in Athens. She was 15th in 1992 in Barcelona, made the final in 1996 in Atlanta placing eighth, Canada's best Olympic result in the sport, and was 13th in 2000 at Sydney.
Langford likes her chances for a medal in Athens. It's a new course and it should advantage the experience paddlers.
"It's a new course for everybody, so there's no home course advantage," said Langford, also a motivational speaker for the Esteem Team. "It's also one of the most spectacular venues I've ever seen."
