It was a dream come true for pitcher Paul Spoljaric to be named to the Canadian Olympic team. The former major league veteran, who pitched for several seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, is expected provide experience and guidance to the younger members as well.
Spoljaric played seven seasons in the majors, the first three from 1994-1996 with the Blue Jays. He also pitched for the Seattle Mariners, Philadelphia Phillies and Kansas City Royals. He had a second stint in Toronto in 1999.
This season Spoljaric is pitching with the Toronto Maple Leafs of the Intercounty League. The Athens Olympics are not his first multi sport competition. Splojaric pitched for Team B.C., at the 1989 Canada Games.
