Infielder Kevin Nicholson was a member of Canada's team at the Olympic qualifier last year in Panama and hit .269 with a homer and five RBI's. In 1997 he made history as the first-ever Canadian-born player to be selected in the first round of the major league draft when he was taken by San Diego with the 27th pick. He played 37games for the Padres in 2000. His first hit was a home run against Cincinnati. But he fractured a bone in his left hand just before batting practice in September that year. He had fractured his right hand in 1997. He is currently in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization with the AA Altoona Curve, where he's played at shortstop, third base and second base.
