First baseman Justin Morneau should be one of Canada's biggest offensive threats at the Olympics. He was a member of the World Team in July in the Futures Game which was held in conjunction with MLB's All Star Game in Houston. While he didn't have great night, it doesn't take away from the fact that Morneau is one of the top young prospects in baseball. Morneau is currently in the Minnesota Twins organization and was called up to the parent team for a week in June and again in July. He has spent most of the season with the AAA Rochester Red Wings where he is having a great season. Last year he was part of the Canadian team that earned an Olympic berth at the qualifying tournament. Morneau was brilliant hitting .400 with five home runs and nine RBI's in only 20 at bats.

He is a 1999 graduate of New Westminster Secondary School where he played baseball, basketball and hockey. He was a member of National Championship baseball teams in 1997 and 1998 and named top catcher and hitter at the 1998 nationals. Morneau has solid international experience. In 1998, he played on the Canadian World Junior team and in 2001 wore the Maple Leaf at the world championships.
