Marie-Pier Beaudet made some history when she qualified for the Olympics in women's archery. When she defeated Rachel Savage 11-6 in the deciding match for the Olympic spot at trials she became Canada's youngest ever Olympic archer at age 17. She is also the first female archer at the Olympics for Canada since Brenda Cuming in 1988 and the first Olympic female archer from Quebec since 1984.
Beaudet, coached by her father Denis Beaudet - a former national team member-burst on the international scene two years ago when she recorded a stunning victory at the prestigious Arizona Cup. She broke two world records and numerous national marks for her age group and beat 50 opponents, some twice her age for her first international win. At the time was still one year away from being a junior level archer.
"Her strength is her determination," said Denis Beaudet.
Currently a junior, she is ranked number-one in Canada overall and has posted medal performances at four senior level events including gold at the Mexican Grand Prix and Ontario Spring Classic. Just before the Olympics, she's scheduled to compete at the world junior championships.
