Martha Hart forges ahead with Owen Hart Foundation

By CHRIS GERRITSEN -- Calgary Sun

Martha Hart is making sure the memory of her husband, super-star wrestler Owen Hart, lives on in the hearts of Calgarians.

Hart is once again involved with an upcoming event in May that aims to help give women a second chance in life.

The Owen Hart Foundation fund-raiser in support of Youville Women's Residence happens Thursday, May 17, at the Roxbury on 11 Ave. S.W.

"May is the month of Owen's birthday and his death. It'll always be such a hard month for me to face, and this way I can look forward to it rather than avoid it or ignore it," says Hart. "When this happened to Owen I was left searching for answers. The answer came to me in the form of the Owen Hart Foundation."

The Foundation fund-raiser for Youville is a combination live and silent auction, complete with food and entertainment. The event will see 100% of the proceeds going to Youville who, in turn, will use the money to help women in Calgary heal the wounds caused by domestic violence, abuse, addiction and mental health problems.

Hart says helping those in need will always be the focus of the Owen Hart Foundation.

"I guess why I want to make this a life's work for me is it brings meaning to my life, it brings meaning to everything that's happened to me," says Hart.

The fund-raiser isn't until May, but tickets are available now and it would be great to see this thing sell out far in advance.

For more tickets or information, call Laura or Linda at 403-246-3873.
