NFL Greats Help Windsor Kick Off the Road to Super Bowl XL
Windsor area youth came face-to-face with their football heroes last week, as the NFL officially kicked off the Road to Super Bowl XL in Canada.
Windsor-born Jacksonville Jaguar BRETT ROMBERG teamed up with Detroit Lions ANDREW BATTLE (LB), CASEY FITZSIMMONS (TE), KELLY BUTLER (OL), CORY REDDING (DE), CORY SCHLESINGER (FB) and LEONARD STEPHENS (TE) on Friday to lead more than 300 elementary school students through football fundamentals like passing, catching, and running techniques.
"The kids had the time of their lives," said Karl Yoker, Principal of Forest Glad Public School. "When we arrived back at school, all of the students wanted to go out and practice their new skills. Many of the students came back saying that they had a new favourite sport."
The clinic, called NFL Road to XL Super Clinic, was presented by Reebok and held at Windsor Stadium.
"This clinic is an important part of our commitment to highlighting Super Bowl XL as a truly international event," said Daniel J. Quinn, Managing Director, NFL Canada. "We look forward to working with the citizens of Windsor to put our collective best foot forward during the exciting months to come."
The NFL Road to XL Super Clinic continues a series of Windsor based NFL-themed events, executed in conjunction with the Canadian Super Bowl XL Host Committee, chaired by Windsor MAYOR EDDIE FRANCIS leading to Super Bowl XL in February. Earlier this spring the league announced that a Windsor-based Reebok Flag Football team would participate in the national championship tournament and that a free Junior Player Development session would be held in the city.
As part of an ongoing effort to promote an active healthy lifestyle with today's youth and in partnership with the Windsor Board of Education, the clinic will be attended by more than 300 students from local public schools.
