With four Canadians (three veterans and one rookie) participating in camp, there are plenty of Canadian story angles to pursue.
For starters there is Jesse Lumsden, an undrafted free agent signed by the Seahawks last weekend. Lumsden got a few carries in practice yesterday. The Burlington, Ontario born running back is heralded by some as the best player to come from north of the border in the past 10 years and is hoping to impress the coaches enough to stick with the team. The 2004 Hec Crighton award winner created a buzz with NFL scouts after showing off his 4.4 speed in pre-draft workouts.
Like Lumsden, veteran long-snapper J.P. Darche played four years of Canadian university football before taking a shot at the NFL. Darche, a graduate of McGill University in Montreal, is entering his entering his sixth season with the Seahawks.
Vancouver's Jerome Pathon, signed this off season by the Seahawks, also played some football in the Canadian University system. Pathon won CIS Rookie of the Year honours in 1993 at Acadia before transferring to the University of Washington. The seven-year veteran receiver joined the Seahawks as a free agent.
The fourth Canadian in camp with the Seahawks this season is Toronto, Ontario native Kerry Carter. The backup running back and special teams player, is entering his third season with the club. Like Lumsden, Carter got his start with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent.
