Sunday, February 6, 2000 Coyotes owner denies dealing with Hollywood producerPHOENIX (AP) -- Phoenix Coyotes owner Richard Burke wants to sell the NHL franchise, but denies he is negotiating with Hollywood producer Barry Kemp. The Ellman Cos., a Phoenix developer, said Friday that it has teamed with Kemp to negotiate a deal to buy the Coyotes. But Burke told The Arizona Republic on Saturday he has not been negotiating with any buyers, including Kemp. "I can say from a personal conversation with Barry Kemp that he has no interest," Burke said. "He looked at the situation and concluded not to go forward. We have no ongoing conversations." Bob Kaufman, Ellman senior vice president, said Saturday that the firm and Kemp signed a joint venture agreement Jan. 9. The pact says the two would buy the team and build a voter-approved hockey arena complex in south Scottsdale. "That agreement called for Barry Kemp to lead negotiations with Richard Burke to acquire the Coyotes, with Ellman taking the lead role on the development," Kaufman said. "That agreement remains in effect."
