  • OFSSA alters eligibility rule

     OFSAA modified its eligibility yesterday for next week's girls provincial hockey championship.
     Any player who participated in fewer than six games for an NWHL team since Dec. 1 is eligible.

    Thunder to face Aeros in division finals

     The Brampton Thunder will again face the defending champion Beatrice Aeros in the West Division finals next week after both teams swept their series 2-0 in the National Women's Hockey League playoffs.
     In the East Division, it will be another rematch, with the Montreal Wingstar looking for revenge from last year's division final loss to the Sainte-Julie Pantheres.

    James remembered as the best

     Angela James, the Wayne Gretzky of female hockey, received the ultimate sendoff.
     In a 40-minute ceremony before the Beatrice Aeros-Montreal Wingstar game Sunday afternoon, James was honoured for her many years in local, provincial, national and international hockey.

    Wingstar to host Oval X-treme

     MONTREAL -- The National Women's Hockey League's Montreal Wingstar hosts the Calgary's Oval X-treme team this Sunday, February 18th, at Concordia University.
     This exhibition matchup pits Wingstar Caroline Ouellette against six of her fellow Canadian national teammates from the Gold medal-winning 2000 Women's World Hockey Championship squad. Team Canada is undefeated in all six Women's World Hockey Championships, capturing Gold medals each year since the tournament's creation in 1995.

    Wingstar splits weekend games

     The National Women's Hockey League finished up a busy weekend before the Ontario Provincial finals this week.
     On Saturday, the Beatrice Aeros defeated Montreal in a close game, 2-1, while Sainte-Julie clobbered Laval 14-3.

    Le Mistral rebound to salvage weekend

     The Laval Le Mistral, who were thoroughly hammered by the Brampton Thunder 18-0 Saturday, bounced back against Toronto Sunday, tying the Sting 9-9 to garner a point on their road trip to Toronto.
     Katey Foley scored three goals, including the tying goal with 1:08 left in the game for the Sting. Coley Dosser and Deanna Locicero picked up two goals each.
