Monday, 21 September, 1998Avalanche 5, Kings 4Jones lifts AvalancheLAS VEGAS (AP) -- Keith Jones lifted a loose puck over fallen goalie Frederic Chabot with 7:05 to play, giving the Colorado Avalanche a 5-4 NHL pre-season victory Sunday night over the Los Angeles Kings. Los Angeles broke a 3-3 tie at 7:04 of the third period on Luc Robitaille's power-play goal. Valeri Kamensky, on his knees in the slot, answered for the Avalanche at 9:29, pushing a rebound of teammate Chris Drury's shot past Chabot, who had 24 saves. Don MacLean gave the Kings the lead scoring on a tip-in at 2:34 of the first period. Colorado made it 2-1 on short-handed goals by Brad Larsen and Peter Forsberg in a 14-second span just five minutes into the game, which was played at the MGM Grand Garden.
