(CP) -- Stu Barnes snapped a scoreless tie with a power-play goal late in the opening period and Jean-Sebastian Aubin made 32 saves as the Pittsburgh Penguins cruised to a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche in NHL exhibition play Saturday night. Barnes put the Penguins ahead for good with one second left in the first period when he got to the puck amid a scramble in front of the net and slipped a shot past Patrick Roy for his first pre-season goal. Rob Brown doubled the lead midway through the second and picked up an assist on Patrick Lebeau's tally, which built the lead to 3-0 with 6:58 to go in the period. Valeri Kamensky answered 87 seconds later, beating Aubin on the power-play for his fourth pre-season goal. But Aubin dominated from there, stopping all 14 shots he faced in the final period. Jan Hrdina had a pair of assists for Pittsburgh, which ended exhibition play with a 4-2-3 mark after going 3-0-1 in its final four contests. Roy turned aside 20 shots for the Avalanche, which lost its last three games to close the pre-season at 5-3-1. Colorado played without regulars Peter Forsberg, Adam Deadmarsh and Rene Corbet.
