Tuesday, June 8, 1999 Avs not about to change a thingDENVER (CP) -- The Colorado Avalanche might have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs a little early, but general manager Pierre Lacroix said he isn't planning to change his team's playing style.Lacroix said Monday he has no intention of transforming his slick-skating, freewheeling team into one that slows the game because of its defensive philosophy. "Anybody that knows the game knows we have such an exciting team and we will have an exciting one for many years to come," Lacroix told the Rocky Mountain News. "We will bring that excitement into the Pepsi Center. "We build this based on speed and talent." One of the areas that could use some improvement however, is Colorado's core of defencemen. "We can improve on defence," Lacroix said. "But don't think we don't try. "If someone wants to bring six defencemen on a silver platter, call me. "We're not going to change. We haven't built this to change anything that we created that is so exciting for our fans just because we lost in a Game 7 (against Dallas) that we were fortunate to be in."
