Thursday, December 9, 1999 Tabaracci lets Avs protect Roy and DenisDENVER (CP) -- The addition of veteran goalie Rick Tabaracci permits the Avalanche to protect both Patrick Roy and Marc Denis in next summer's expansion draft.Teams have two alternatives in the expansion draft. They can protect five defencemen, nine forwards and one goalie or three defencemen, seven forwards and two goalies. If teams protect one goalie, none of the goalies exposed has to have any NHL experience. If two goalies are protected, one of the goalies exposed has to have at least 10 games of NHL experience this season or 25 over the past two seasons. The Avs didn't have a third goalie with NHL experience until acquiring Tabaracci. Tabaracci, 29 has played 284 NHL games with Pittsburgh, Winnipeg, Washington, Calgary, Tampa Bay and Atlanta.
