Tuesday, October 19, 1999 Tretiak helps out ThibaultCHICAGO (CP) -- Vladislav Tretiak, the rock wall behind the dominant Soviet Red Army teams of the 1970s and 1980s, is helping out struggling Blackhawks goalie Jocelyn Thibault.Thibault has looked anything like the goalie that closed last season with an 8-1-1 run and signed a two-year, $4.3 million deal in the off-season. In his first three games this season, Thibault faced 69 shots and gave up 12 goals -- a save percentage of .826. In his next two outings, Thibault gave up five goals in 58 shots, a save percentage of .914. "A goalie is different than most hockey players," Tretiak told the Chicago Tribune. "The mental aspect is No. 1. Technique is secondary." In seasons past, Tretiak would visit from Moscow every other month. This season, he will work with Thibault and the other goalies -- Steve Passmore, Marc Lamothe and Michel Larocque -- for two weeks every month. "Even PGA players use teachers," Thibault said. "I like working with Vlady. He knows my game and knows my tendencies."
