(AP) -- Dean Jordan, who led the Carolina Hurricanes for most of the two years the team played on "home" ice 80 miles away, resigned Tuesday as president and chief operating officer of the NHL team's parent company.Team owner Peter Karmanos Jr. announced the resignation of Jordan, who joined Gale Force Holdings in April 1998. Karmanos said the team appreciated Jordan's work as the Hurricanes moved from Greensboro to their permanent home at the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena. "However, at this time, it became necessary to restructure our organization in order to strengthen it as we move forward," he said. The Hurricanes, who played at the Greensboro Coliseum for the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons, played their first game in the new arena Oct. 29 after opening the season with an NHL record-tying nine-game road trip.
