Thursday, September 9, 1999 Flames rookie injured at campCALGARY (CP) -- A shoulder injury to Calgary Flames rookie defenceman Toni Lydman could disrupt the team's plans for the upcoming season.Lydman injured his left shoulder in the opening day of scrimmages and wasn't able to participate in Wednesday's on-ice sessions. The idea was to play Lydman, who turns 22 later this month and looked impressive in prospect camp, to get a clear sense of whether he could play in the National Hockey League. Under terms of Lydman's contract, if he doesn't make the Flames, he will not go to their minor-league affiliate in Saint John, N.B. Instead, he would return to play for IFK Helsinki, his Finnish club team. "Obviously, you don't want to see anybody get hurt, but he's not hurt as bad as they initially thought," head coach Brian Sutter told the Calgary Herald. "There's various degrees of shoulder (separations) and he was in, doing things today, you probably shouldn't do for a couple of weeks. But it (the injury) doesn't help. He's in a little different scenario because a decision's got to be made. "It's good to have him here. He showed a lot of things (in rookie camp). He didn't look out of place at all."
