Saturday, September 11, 1999 Guy's gone WildLapointe had been with the Flames organization since 1990 as a scout, also serving as an assistant coach before returning to scouting full-time two seasons ago. Lapointe, a Hall of Famer who won six Stanley Cups in his playing career in Montreal, will be missed because his impressive resume gave the scouting staff credibility. He was also a strong presence for the franchise in the community. In Minnesota, Lapointe will join the staff of general manager Doug Risebrough and assistant GM Tom Thompson, both of whom he worked with in the Flames organization. "This was an excellent opportunity I could not pass up," said Lapointe. TRYIN' FOR RYAN?: The Flames are said to be interested iin disgruntled Monteral Canadiens winger Terry Ryan. The former Monteral first-rounder (1995) is said to be unhappy with his position in the organization. Flames GM Al Coates is expected to discuss the trade with Habs GM Rejean Houle this weekend. The Habs play the 'Dome tomorrow night. ONE HOT LINE: The Flames may have found a secret weapon -- throw their No. 1 picks from the last three years together on a line. Daniel Tkaczuk scored three goals and Rico Fata had two to pace the Flames rookies to a 7-5 victory over the Edmonton Oilers rookies in Red Deer. Oleg Saprykin, the top pick in June, joined the line with Tkaczuk (1997) and Fata (1998).
