Thursday, October 28, 1999 Flames call up RegehrCALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- Robyn Regehr, the 19th overall pick in the 1998 NHL draft who broke both legs July 4 in a fatal automobile accident, was recalled by the Calgary Flames and made his NHL debut tonight.Regehr, 19, played five games for Saint John of the American Hockey League during a two-week conditioning program. He did not figure in the scoring and was a minus-2 with one shot in tonight's 4-3 overtime victory at Ottawa. The 6-2, 225-pound defenseman was injured when his car was hit head-on by another vehicle in Saskatchewan this summer. Two passengers in the other car were killed. Regehr was supposed to be off skates for up to six months but was able to practice with the Flames in training camp. Born in Brazil, Regehr was drafted by the Colorado Avalanche and acquired at last season's trade deadline in a deal for Theo Fleury, the Flames' all-time leading scorer. Regehr had 20 goals, 49 assists and 346 penalty minutes in 183 games for Kamloops of the Western Hockey League from 1996-99.
