Today was a GREAT day! The sun was shining and the skies were clear. My younger brother Jimmy "the Iceman", will be disappointed that he was unable to share this day with my fellow team members and I.
As an avid fisherman I can certainly appreciate Kenora and Lake of the Woods. It appears as though I will need to make a return trip to do some fishing, as I was too busy on this day driving my Zamboni and greeting the locals.
One of the highlights of my day was being able to meet the representatives for the 1907 Stanley Cup winning Kenora Thistles.
I was shown a variety of artifacts from their Glory years - it was very interesting! In case you didn't know, Kenora is the self-proclaimed smallest community to have ever won the Stanley Cup.
I was also able to meet Mayor David Canfield during our setup at the Harbour Front Pavillion. Mayor Canfield is a big hockey fan and a supportor of the Goodyear Drive for Gold. He told me that "it is fantastic to see the tour make a stop in Kenora, a gateway to and from Ontario, and a community with a great deal of hockey history and tradition."
Goodbye for now to Ontario. Westward ho we go to Manitoba beginning with Winnipeg on Wednesday. I can hardly wait, I have never been to Manitoba before!
