In celebration of Canada's national hockey teams heading to the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics, a unique program has been developed by the CHA entitled Goodyear Drive For Gold.

As we support our National Men's and Women's teams heading to Salt Lake, we honour the communities where the players were raised and educated, both on and off the ice. History shows most of Canada's hockey heroes have come from smaller communities where the local hockey rink is the focal point of the town. In recognition of the communities and our national team players, a one-of-a-kind Zamboni will embark on a 6,000-km trip from coast to coast this winter season.

The Goodyear Drive for Gold allows all Canadian's to wrap themselves in the flag and be part of a rare opportunity that has never been offered before - drive a Zamboni down the main street in their hometown!

"The Goodyear Drive For Gold Tour is a fun, whimsical take-off on the enormously popular torch relays that accompany major International events", said Bob Nicholson, President of the CHA. "This is a great concept because it brings an educational component and message to our members and fans at the community level, while increasing support for our national men's and women's teams. Most importantly, the Tour will raise significant funds that will allow the CHA to continue to invest in the grass roots development of our sport."

The tour is expected to make a net contribution to CHA grassroots programs of well over $850,000 while visiting 69 Canadian cities on a journey that will reach every Canadian province and cover an estimated 6,000-KM. A motorcade of two 48' tractor-trailers, a tour operation center and the Goodyear Hoop Troop SUV begins in Eastern Canada on September 30th.

One of the Tour trucks will be outfitted as a walk-through CHA hockey exhibit, with displays covering a wide range of hockey-related themes including CHA development programs, the rise and popularity of women's hockey, and the history of Canadian hockey at major International events, including the Winter Olympics. The Tour Zamboni and CHA display truck will make special appearances at most major communities along the Tour route.
