Hartford right wing John Tripp named Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week
SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Hartford Wolf Pack right wing John Tripp has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, October 27, 2002. Tripp scored six goals and recorded a plus-4 rating in three weekend games for the Wolf Pack, gaining a tie of the league's goal-scoring lead in the process.
After being held scoreless in the season's first four games, Tripp notched a hat trick in Friday's 8-7 loss to Manchester, then scored twice more as Hartford rallied from 3-0 and 5-3 deficits to earn a 5-5 tie against Philadelphia on Saturday. Tripp capped the week with the first goal in the Wolf Pack's 4-2 win over Albany on Sunday evening.
In recognition of his achievement, Tripp will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Connecticut Chasers, members of Special Hockey International's Heart League, in Tripp's name.
A native of Kingston, Ont., the 25-year-old Tripp was a second-round draft choice of the Calgary Flames in 1997. He joined the Wolf Pack last season and was reunited with Hartford general manager Al Coates, who was GM of the Flames from 1995-2000.
