LOOKING AHEAD:
A 14-game Friday night -- the busiest one-day schedule in AHL history -- includes a homecoming for Portland head coach Tim Army as he leads his Pirates into Providence tonight (7:05 ET). Army is a native of the Rhode Island capital and a graduate of Providence College; grandfather George was a long-time trainer for the AHL's Providence Reds, and dad Tom is still the official scorer for the P-Bruins. Army's Pirates enter play three points back of the B's in the North Division; Providence has dropped three in a row and could be without leading scorer Matt Herr, who made his Boston Bruins debut last night at the FleetCenter.

Central Division-leading Grand Rapids puts a seven-game unbeaten streak on the line tonight (7:30 ET, 6:30 CT) against West-leading Houston at Van Andel Arena. The Aeros have already posted two wins this year in Grand Rapids as part of their 7-1-0-0 road record, with Dieter Kochan recording a 1.95 GAA and .933 save percentage in three starts against the Griffins. Grand Rapids has allowed just 12 goals on their current 5-0-2 run.

Hamilton and Albany collide in a home-and-home this weekend, at the Pepsi Arena tonight (7:00 ET) and at Copps Coliseum on Saturday (7:00). The Bulldogs lead the Canadian Division with a record of 8-3-1-1, and have outscored the opposition 12-2 on their current three-game winning streak. Ex-'Dog Joe Hulbig has 10 points in 12 games for the resurgent River Rats, who own an 18-17-3 edge in the teams' all-time regular-season series.

Norfolk begins life without Peter White when Wilkes-Barre/Scranton visits Scope for games tonight (7:30 ET) and Saturday (7:30). The South Division leaders still have plenty of firepower, including Mike Peluso, the AHL's leading scorer with 21 points, and Casey Hankinson, whose team-high nine goals have all come in the last 10 games. The Penguins have dropped five in a row and have been shut out in each of their last two outings.
