Griffins ground Aeros

 Marc Lamothe made 34 saves to earn his second consecutive shutout, as Grand Rapids extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with 3-0 victory over Houston on Friday night.

 The Griffins are 6-0-2 since starting the season with just one win in their first five games.

 Mark Mowers had a goal and an assist for Grand Rapids, giving him 18 points in 13 games this year. Tim Skarperud and Bryan Adams also scored.

 Houston was shut out for the second straight night, and is 1-2-1 since their 11-1-0 start.

 Karl Goehring posted his second straight shutout, making 37 saves in a 1-0 win over Binghamton... Ty Conklin made 21 saves for Hamilton's second consecutive shutout, a 3-0 win over Albany... Portland erased a three-goal deficit in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but Zdenek Kutlak's overtime goal allowed Providence to salvage a 6-5 victory... Curtis Sanford made 27 saves to lead Worcester past St. John's, 4-1... Former Amerk Scott Thomas capped a three-goal third period to give Cleveland a 4-3 win over Rochester...  Norfolk improved to an AHL-best 12-1-1-2 as Matt Henderson recorded a goal and two assists in the Admirals' 4-2 win over Wilkes-Barre/Scranton... Alexei Smirnov scored two third-period goals in his AHL debut to give Cincinnati a 4-2 win over Hershey... Ramzi Abid scored twice and Dmitry Afanasenkov and Jeff Taffe added a goal and an assist each as Springfield doubled up Lowell, 4-2... Milwaukee went to 3-0-0-1 on the young season against Chicago, defeating the defending champs, 3-2... Serge Payer had a goal and an assist to help San Antonio tie Manitoba, 2-2... Gavin Morgan recorded two goals and an assist as Utah held on for a 6-5 win over Hartford.
