Chris Kelleher Chat

Anonymous: Chris, Congratulations on a great season, an outstanding post season & #1 Star last night! What is your explanation for your post season scoring explosion? You have more points in 19 post season games than in the entire regular season. Does the tremendous noise at First Union Arena make it difficult for the players to communicate on the ice?

Chris Kelleher: I can't put a finger on it. I can't explain it but it's a fun time of the year to be playing hockey. I am just happy to be contributing to a winning cause. The crowd's great and we love for them to make as much noise as possible. Sometime's it is difficult to hear but it's probably worse for the other team. We have the best fans in the league and we love for them to make as much noise as possible.

Henry S., Norfolk Admirals Fan: We read about the crowds that you get up in Wilkes-Barre. Just how important are they to you guys as a team, or is this just some overblown plublicity?

Chris Kelleher: They're definitely very important to us. It gives us a big advantage playing at home in the playoffs. Everybody comes dressed in white with their white pom-poms and it gets you so pumped to see a crowd like that.

Shana MacPhee ( Flames Fan): As a defenceman what Flames offencive line do you think is the most dangerous??? Varlamov, Murray and Roche????

Chris Kelleher: I think the Flames have two lines that are two lines that are really dangerous. The line with Varlamov, Murray and Roche and the line with Clarke, Begin and Tkaczuk is a tough line as well. They are very gritty and fast so it makes it tough to play against them.

Smokey: What do you consider to be your greatest on-ice accomplishment?

Chris Kelleher: Probably when I was a freshman in college, we won the national title when I was at Boston University.

Bob Botwright: Do you think that getting milon kraft and ferance back will help the team in winning the cup?

Chris Kelleher: Yeah, I definitely do. Anytime you can add two guys with talent like that it boosts your chances. And when you get two guys with talent like that it helps to boost the rest of the players confidence in the locker room.

wildivy@aol.com: being so far away from home.....do we the fans make you and your team-mates feel like your part of our home? well i hope you have time to get back to me.......good luck in the game! Ps. my daughter who is 2 lvs ya. GO PENS

Chris Kelleher: The people in Wilkes-Barre definitely make you feel at home. They go out of their way to make you feel at home. I've said it many times -- we have the best fans in the league and I think that we also have some of the best people as well in the area. It makes it more enjoyable to play here and I know all of the players here appreciate.

A Huge Penguins Fan!: Hey Chris, Congratulations on a successful season and playoff run so far. What do you feel the team has to do to be successful against the Flames? Also, with the return of Milan Kraft and Andrew Ference, what will they bring to the team now?

Chris Kelleher: I think to be successful against a team like Saint John we have to be very physical with them. They are such a fast and skillful team that we have to very physical and try to cut down on the open ice that is available. I think that those two guys will bring some great skill to the lineup. They are both gritty guys that play hard. It will be a tremendous amounty of help to get them back.

Rick Sember: Hey Chris, I'm a huge fan and season ticket holder. I can't tell you great it is so many different player step up and help win games. How important is it to have that balance and the variety of different styles and personalities? Go Pens!!

Chris Kelleher: I think it's very important in the plkayoffs. In order to be successful and reach this point you have to have a lot of guys step up their play and a number of guys have.

Amy..biggest Melochefan: Chris, what do you think is the biggest change in the Pens this year and the Pens last year that helped you get to the Calder Cup finals.Good Luck tomorrow I will be watching from home.

Chris Kelleher: Thank-you. I think we have a lot more veteran guys and a couple of guys who have been through the battles in the playoffs. We added a couple of guys who have gone pretty far in the IHL and AHL playoffs. Having experienced guys like that helps and having guys like that who know how to win in the playoffs definitely helps.

Spike : With all of the free agents in Pittsburgh, do you think you can crack the lineup of Mario's Pens next year?

Chris Kelleher: I hope I can. I'll have to see what happens over the summer with who they sign and don't sign. I will have to go to training camp and do my best and hope that I can make the team.

Bob: Hi Chris! I am very glad with your play during the playoffs. I was just wondering... What do you guys expect to do when you win the Calder Cup?

Chris Kelleher: I'm sure we'll have some good times and celebrate a bit. We'll bring it back to Wilkes-Barre and hope that they would have a parade with it. But I am sure that we will have a good time with it.

Chris Kelleher: I'd just like to thank all the people for taking the time toi write in and ask me questions. And most importantly I would like to take the time out to thank the fans on behalf of myself and my teammates for their support during the regular season and especially during the playoffs.

Moderator: SLAM! Sports would like to thank Chris for taking the time out during the Penguins' Calder Cup run to answer questions in the AHL chat room. Please stay tuned for the next chat with your favorite AHL player on theAHL.com
