Hayley Wickenheiser is Canada's best-known member on the women's national hockey team. She made history in 2000 when she represented Canada in women's softball at the Sydney Olympics. Only a handful of athletes have ever participated at both the summer and winter Games. In fact at this year's Games, two Canadians will be double-seasoned Olympians: Wickenheiser and speed skater Clara Hughes.

Wickenheiser, who missed last year's world championships due to a knee injury, is regarded as one of the top female hockey players in the world. Last summer she spent five weeks in the Czech Republic preparing for the Games with a men's pro team. It wasn't her first experience at the pro level. She also attended the Philadelphia Flyers rookie camps in 1998 and 1999.

She also launched a tour of skills development clinics for girls and women entitled Wickenheiser One-on-One which went to 16 Canadian communities in six different provinces and reached nearly 4,000 players.
