Paula McKenzie, a former member of the University of Calgary track and field team, provided power and speed to pilot Christine Fraser as her rookie brakeman in the two-man event last season. The pair capped the 2000-2001 campaign with the national title setting a track record in Calgary.

However it is Christina Smith who'll be McKenzie's pilot at the Olympics. With Fraser's Olympic berth still undecided, McKenzie won a push competition in January 2002 at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary to earn her ticket to Salt Lake City with as Smith's partner.

McKenzie competed in her first race last season after only three practices and admits she has developed a passion for the sport. She also placed seventh at the world championships and posted three top-10 World Cup performances with both Fraser and Smith last winter. Along with long training hours, she also works as a corporate securities paralegal in Calgary.
