At the Olympic trials in Regina this past December, Kevin Martin found himself in the same situation as four years ago. He was down to his final game for a berth on the Olympic squad. Back in 1997, he lost the final to Mike Harris who went on to win silver at the Nagano Games.

But this time he'll wear the Maple Leaf after edging Kerry Burtnyk 8-7 in a dramatic final in Regina.

Martin is considered one of the best skips in Canada with two national titles but hasn't won on the international stage. He was fourth at the 1992 Albertville Olympics where curling was a demonstration event and was second and fourth in his two world championship appearances.

"We'll be training and practicing hard and doing everything we can to be at the top of our game in February," said Martin, who owns his own curling supply company.

He has curled with third Don Walchuk and lead Don Bartlett since 1996 while 24-year-old Carter Rycroft joined three years ago. Martin is head of the World Curling Player's Association and won the 2000 World Curling Tour. He was also the Canadian junior champion in 1985.
