Thomas Grandi, one of Canada's best-ever technical skiers, made a strong comeback last season from a serious injury and heads to the 2002 Olympics with a healthy dose of confidence. He missed almost the entire 1999-2000 season with a back injury and another injury left him on the snowbanks for the start of last winter's campaign.

"I learned more about myself last year," said Grandi, 13th in the men's slalom at the world championships. "Now I can use that knowledge to build for this season. It's an Olympic year and I want to make sure I'm peaking at the right time."

Grandi has posted some of his best results on the Olympic course at Snowbasin including the only giant slalom World Cup medal ever for a Canadian man when he placed third in 1997. He was 14th in the giant slalom and 16th in the slalom at the 1994 Olympics but did not finish his races at Nagano in 1998. The eight-time Canadian champion started skiing at age nine with the Nancy Greene program.
