Marie-Eve Drolet, who'll turn 20 just prior to the start of the Olympic Games, is the new star on the Canadian team. She has made an incredible
comeback from a serious back injury to become Canada's best all around short track skater and probably stands as Canada's top hope for a
medal in the women's individual events.
However the past two Olympics have shown that the short track speed skating at the Olympics is a lot nastier and rougher than the short track at
World Cups, world championships or national championships. Drolet will surely be a marked woman for the Koreans, Chinese and other world
powers.
"I have a lot of international experience but i know the Olympics are another ball game," said Drolet, a two-time world junior champion. "But I
think the fact we have some veterans on our team is going to help me."
At the Olympic trials, Drolet won six of the 12 races and qualified to compete in the 1,000 and 1,500 metre races. Last season she made a
sparkling debut at the senior level winning her first World Cup and world championship medals.
At the national team trials in March 2000, Drolet crashed and fractured a vertebrae which put her career in jeopardy. However she was able to
comeback the following season and won her second consecutive world junior crown.

Feb. 20 - Women's 3,000-metre relay: Isabelle Charest, Montreal; Marie-Eve Drolet, Laterriere, Amelie Goulet-Nadon, Lasalle, Que., and Alanna Kraus, Abbotsford, won bronze medal.
Feb. 20 - Women's 1,500 metres: Marie-Eve Drolet, Laterriere, Que., finished second in heat, advanced to final.
Feb. 16 - Women's 3,000-metre relay: Isabelle Charest, Montreal; Marie-Eeve Drolet, Laterriere, Que.; Alanna Kraus, Abbotsford, B.C., and Tania Vicent, Laval, Que., finished second in semifinal heat, advanced to final Wednesday.
Feb. 13 - Women's 1,500 metres: Marie-Eve Drolet, Laterriere, Que., won Group B consolation final.
