More than 3.5 million people pass through the Melbourne Cricket Ground's gates at the stadium is one of Australia's biggest and busiest stadiu. Each year, more than 90 days of cricket and Australian Rules football are held here.
In 1992, the playing field was entirely reconstructed and replaced with a sand-based soil, ensuring excellent drainage and load-bearing characteristics.
With a capacity of 98,000, the stadium seats 90,000 comfortably.
The stadium will host preliminary matches in both the men's and women's football tournaments. In fact, the matches will begin two days before the official start of the Olympics.
