Mike McWha just missed the cut in 1996 but after a turbulent four years
made the Olympic team at trials in June in the men's 4X200 freestyle relay.
"The last four years have been discouraging at times," said McWha, a
kinesiology student at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor. "It hurt a lot not making in 1996.
I wasn't much at the Canadian scene. But I decided in the last couple of
years that I was going to make the effort to make the team. It was the
biggest challenge of my career to motivate myself again for swimming."
