Scott MacIntosh was the lone Canadian to qualify at the third and final qualifying trials for the Americas to bring the team total to seven. MacIntosh out-pointed Ariel Abalos of Argentina 6-5 in the final of the 71-kilogram class. Making the Olympic team was a bit more of a struggle than he expected. He was ranked number-one heading into the second qualifier but didn't come through.

 "For sure, the more fights the better," he said. "I've picked up all my experience in the last four years with the national team and I've come a long way. Each year I get better and better and now I'm ranked high in the world and I'm going to peak for the Olympics. I get better the more I fight."

  MacIntosh is a veteran of nearly 90 international bouts with more than 70 victories to his credit. He is a three-time Canadian champion and won silver at the Pan Am Games last year
