Alan Brahmst would like to cap off a long field hockey career with a medal
in Sydney. His career highlights include a silver medal at the 1995 Pan Am
Games, gold at the 1999 Pan Ams in Winnipeg, and a second place finish at
the recent 2000 America's Cup in Cuba. Brahmst had a goal on a corner
penalty in a 4-0 win over the U.S A. in that tournament.
Still recognized as one of the premier defenders in the international game,
Brahmst works in marketing when not on the field hockey pitch. Together
with teammates Hari Kant and Andrew Griffiths, Brahmst has started 'Off the
Crossbar', an informative website for field hockey players that includes
game tips, profiles, videos, and live clinics.
Finding time for field hockey with his busy corporate life has not been
easy. "The reality is that I don't see a choice," Brahmst said. "When you
move into your 30s, a serious job is what you need and I have one and all
the nightmares that come with it. I have been lucky in my ability to
commit to both the national team and my employer, who has been fantastic
and very supportive."
